Dear Father Leopold,
It has been mere weeks since I left the monastery, but in that time I have seen both wonders and horrors. I have been filled with the spirit of Sigmar and confronted with the random evils of Chaos.
It only confirms our fears, the end times are upon us.
Soon after I left, a mere day’s walk outside of Nuln, I encountered a village that had been eaten by beasts and monsters. Some travelers and I fought the beasts, but the strength of our arms was not enough when their dark master arrived. Later, after we found reinforcement, sorcery was used to conceal the crime and allowed the evil to escape.
A brave dwarf died that night. He was one of the death seekers of that race. He went to his end with a pure spirit.
Since then I have traveled with the people I met on that black night.
Shala – a young initiate of Shaylla.
Gretchen – a sell-sword from Nuln. Her actions were odd at first, but my preaching has pulled her back to light.
Bryce – a youth with a troubled past. Evil men seek to kill him for some past offense.
Olden – a noble lad that has joined us more recently. With but a snap, he can summon men and beasts to serve him. For a boy to wield such clout puzzles me. He seeks marked children, too. His have been marked by Chaos for some evil fate. A vision of Sigmar led me to him.
Following the evil circumstances in the village of Ostermark, we went to Nuln. There we warned the Roadwardens, Shaylla’s priestesses, and our order.
Nuln opened my eyes to the glory of the Empire. Never had I imagined that men could build such wonders. The temple to Sigmar overwhelmed me with glories. In gratitude for my service, the brothers let me gaze upon the reliquary of Sigmar. It’s power flowed through me.
The brother’s were most accomodating to me. They dressed me in the robes of their temple, supplied me, and vowed to pursue the sorcerer of Ostermark. Brother Wilhelm was especially interested in your determination that Sigmar is among us.
But Nuln was also filled with man-made marvels. There I saw the wonders that mere people can make. Tell Brother Provst that his taste for cheese could finally be satisfied here.
Despite the wonders there, Nuln will always be the place where I failed my vows.
Bryce’s past had caught up with him. We were ambushed in the temple courtyard. A boy I was carrying to safety was killed by a poisoned crossbow bolt. I should have shielded the boy. He died because of me.
The next day we left for Altdorf.
To get to Altdorf, we traveled by boat. You know my fear of water. The nights were especially long.
The temple of Altdorf is a startling change from what I’d seen in Nuln. Here, I was charged to see the relics of our Lord. The remains of His shield sang to me most strongly. Still, I – a fellow priest – had to pay to seen the relics of our Lord.
I am learning to channel the strength of Sigmar more closely. Already, I’m beginning to perform some miracles. In time, I hope to grow stronger.
Also, you should know that several of our brethren are interested in your teachings. Brother Vitale Bello & Elder Brother Albrycht Krol have been especially interested in your teachings. Elder Sister Amelia Stahlberg also sends her regards.
Are there any messages you wish me to pass on?
Frankly, I fear the Church here in Altdorf has grown complacent and worry that they will not be ready to weather the coming storm
I miss your guidance and companionship. The greater world is far more complex than I believed. Fortunately, Sigmar has provided with both friends and defenses to aid me. They will be enough.
Your obedient servant,
Tharsig
