Letter to Leopold 3

Father Leopold,

Forgive the shortness of this note, I mean no disrespect. I write by firelight following a fierce battle with monsters.

In the Barren Hills, I’ve have encountered the resting place of the Chaos Moon’s tears. This is a twisted place where nature holds no sway. Man-beast walk these hills.

I have found another artifact of the death wizard’s. A ghost guarded it.

She warned me to ‘Retrieve the meteor.’

And we have found evidence that others seek these artifacts.

Do you know of any such meteors?

Your guidance would aid me in my quests. I look for it in Talabheim.

Your follower,

Tharsig

Letter to Grete 1

Sister Grete

Hello, I hope this letter finds you well and basking in the light of Sigmar. Please ignore the state of this letter, but I’m scrawling it beside a fire deep in the Barren Hills. The weight of battle heavy on my arms.

I must ask a boon. Can you and Brother Daniel keep the ruins we protected for the dwarves safe? Do not let anyone build or tear down those catacombs. While I have the keys, I still fear for their interiors. My time here in the hills has convinced me there may be more to those sites than we guessed.

It turns out others know about that tomb. We found a cast off map similar to the one we found in the wizard’s hole. I must know who’s searching for such forbidden knowledge and whether it is safe in their hands.

Write to me in Talabheim.

Please pass this other letter onto Father Leopold at the Leopold Monastery.

Your Brother and Friend,

Tharsig

Letter to Leopold 2

Dear Father Leopold

My time in Altdorf is drawing to a close. I plan to move to Talabheim next. Despite rumors of a plague outbreak there; rumors also speak of this man who may be Sigmar reborn.

There was talk of marked children being kidnapped here in Altdorf, but we could find no evidence to back up such gossip.

I did have a encounter outside of the town that you might find interesting.

Brother Daniel knew of some dwarfs that were having mysterious difficulties constructing a new tower. Workers were disappearing and none knew the source of this danger.

Grete – the initiate I met here in Altdorf – Gretchen & I all travelled through woods to bring the blessings of Sigmar to the area – by prayer or by hammer.

We encountered the evil our first night on watch. In ruins the dwarves were o’erbuilding, catacombs filled with walking dead lay waiting.

There we found not only animated corpses but also the ravings of a mad sorcerer. In this tomb, he raised a library on dark lore and conducted vile acts.

Already, I’ve destroyed a tome the spoke of raising the dead. Next, I’ve been hunting down artifacts made by the wizard. Their purpose is not clear to me, but better in my hands than in others.

Of interest to you, this man had been tracking the orbit of the Chaos Moon. He has come up with three points the moon passes over – like a triangle. One lies here at the tomb outside Altdorf. Another is in the Barren Hills. The last is near Talabheim.

I hope to convince my travelling companions to search these points out. I feel this coincidence, these points alongside our travel plans, is actually the work of Sigmar.

His trust in me will not be misplaced.

I hope this letter finds you well. It would do me good to here from you and the doings of the Monastery. How is young Petra doing? Her prescence must still shock Brother Provst.

Look for me in the town of Talabheim next. Surely, the temple there would hold any news you have for me.

I’ve left word with the temple in Altdorf of my travels. They’ll forward any letters you have sent already.

Your faithful pupil,

Tharsig

Tharsig

I’ve started a blog for Tharsig. He’s a fictional character I’m playing in a Warhammer game run by Josh Chewning.

Tharsig is a young priest from a backwater region. His personality is brash and dogmatic. It should be interesting to see how he reacts to entering more cosmopolitan society and dealing with a religious hierarchy that has grown placid and corrupt.

Letter to Leopold 1

Dear Father Leopold,

It has been mere weeks since I left the monastery, but in that time I have seen both wonders and horrors. I have been filled with the spirit of Sigmar and confronted with the random evils of Chaos.

It only confirms our fears, the end times are upon us.

Soon after I left, a mere day’s walk outside of Nuln, I encountered a village that had been eaten by beasts and monsters. Some travelers and I fought the beasts, but the strength of our arms was not enough when their dark master arrived. Later, after we found reinforcement, sorcery was used to conceal the crime and allowed the evil to escape.

A brave dwarf died that night. He was one of the death seekers of that race. He went to his end with a pure spirit.

Since then I have traveled with the people I met on that black night.

Shala – a young initiate of Shaylla.

Gretchen – a sell-sword from Nuln. Her actions were odd at first, but my preaching has pulled her back to light.

Bryce – a youth with a troubled past. Evil men seek to kill him for some past offense.

Olden – a noble lad that has joined us more recently. With but a snap, he can summon men and beasts to serve him. For a boy to wield such clout puzzles me. He seeks marked children, too. His have been marked by Chaos for some evil fate. A vision of Sigmar led me to him.

Following the evil circumstances in the village of Ostermark, we went to Nuln. There we warned the Roadwardens, Shaylla’s priestesses, and our order.

Nuln opened my eyes to the glory of the Empire. Never had I imagined that men could build such wonders. The temple to Sigmar overwhelmed me with glories. In gratitude for my service, the brothers let me gaze upon the reliquary of Sigmar. It’s power flowed through me.

The brother’s were most accomodating to me. They dressed me in the robes of their temple, supplied me, and vowed to pursue the sorcerer of Ostermark. Brother Wilhelm was especially interested in your determination that Sigmar is among us.

But Nuln was also filled with man-made marvels. There I saw the wonders that mere people can make. Tell Brother Provst that his taste for cheese could finally be satisfied here.

Despite the wonders there, Nuln will always be the place where I failed my vows.

Bryce’s past had caught up with him. We were ambushed in the temple courtyard. A boy I was carrying to safety was killed by a poisoned crossbow bolt. I should have shielded the boy. He died because of me.

The next day we left for Altdorf.

To get to Altdorf, we traveled by boat. You know my fear of water. The nights were especially long.

The temple of Altdorf is a startling change from what I’d seen in Nuln. Here, I was charged to see the relics of our Lord. The remains of His shield sang to me most strongly. Still, I – a fellow priest – had to pay to seen the relics of our Lord.

I am learning to channel the strength of Sigmar more closely. Already, I’m beginning to perform some miracles. In time, I hope to grow stronger.

Also, you should know that several of our brethren are interested in your teachings. Brother Vitale Bello & Elder Brother Albrycht Krol have been especially interested in your teachings. Elder Sister Amelia Stahlberg also sends her regards.

Are there any messages you wish me to pass on?

Frankly, I fear the Church here in Altdorf has grown complacent and worry that they will not be ready to weather the coming storm

I miss your guidance and companionship. The greater world is far more complex than I believed. Fortunately, Sigmar has provided with both friends and defenses to aid me. They will be enough.

Your obedient servant,

Tharsig
